Emulsion is a mixture of two immiscible liquids, typically oil and water, that are stabilized by an emulsifying agent to form a homogenous solution.
They are commonly used in place of traditional hot-mix asphalt for certain applications. As they can be sprayed or spread using conventional equipment. This makes them ideal for use in construction projects where hot-mix asphalt would be difficult to use in remote or mountainous areas, or in projects that require a quick turnaround time.
Bitumen emulsions are also a more environmental friendly, as they emit less greenhouse gases during production and application. they are more cost-effective as they can be transported and stored at lower temperatures reducing the energy required to produce and transport the material.
